Harlan-McGee Associates, Inc. offers Technical expertise assessments
in most of the engineering and scientific fields. We have the experience
and expertise to perform technical assessments of product related accidents
arising from : industrial machinery, home use tools, and appliances,
commercial equipment, gas, electric and water utility industry equipment,
vehicles, chemical and petrochemical industry equipment, construction
equipment, process,design, and explosions.
Our approach to product liability assessment is based on the issues
involved in each accident and our client's wishes. The issues may include;
and accident avoidance evaluation; and equipment design evaluation;
and an evaluation of machine guarding and hazard warnings. Our general
approach to product liability assessment is:
CONSULTATION: We consult with our client to become familiar
with all available information regarding the accident. Such information
may include statements of witnesses, photographs, the equipment it self
if available, bulletins or other literature describing the equipment
and the accident.
SITE EXAMINATION: We visit the accident site to examine the
site and the equipment. During this visit we take photographs and required
dimensions. We analyze the equipment, and may request that the equipment
be operated for our benefit. Depending on the type of equipment involved,
we may request the opportunity to operate the equipment ourselves in
order to gain firsthand knowledge of its operation.
TESTING: We perform testing when necessary to evaluate the equipment
and the accident. Testing maybe of a mechanical, electrical, or materials
nature. Sometimes testing is conducted on the actual piece of equipment
or involved part. If testing will be destructive, we assist our client
to coordinate with other involved parties. On occasion we test similar
equipment.
RESEARCH: We perform research necessary to evaluate the equipment
and the accident. Research may include codes and standards, government
regulations, standard and accepted industry practices, and the design
of other similar equipment.
REPORT: After completion of our site examination, testing, research,
and analysis, we prepare a report of our findings. The report may be
verbal or written. Two sample reports are attached.
TESTIMONY: We are available for deposition or courtroom testimony
as necessary.
